Looking ahead to 2025, there are some gorgeous decorating ideas shaping the trends for nurseries that all work in creating cozy, functional and grounded spaces that feel good to be in.
To keep your nurseries on-trend and stylish, we’ve enlisted the expert help of Nicole Sage, interiors writer and designer at Sleek-chic Interiors to get the lowdown on the nursery trends for the year ahead, and how you too can easily recreate this in your own little ones nursery.
Top Nursery Trends For 2025
1.Earthy Inspired Color Schemes
Nicole shared with us that one of the leading design trends across interiors in 2025 will be earthy inspired interior design schemes.
“There continues to be this inherent need to feel connected to nature, it makes us feel good, and safe. This can easily be reflected into our interiors by leaning into earthy colors, and using lots of natural materials for natural warmth that feels ultra relaxed yet stylish”.
When compared to other design trends such as maximalism and traditional period design, earthy interiors are actually one of the easiest to replicate. Focus on a grounding scheme and use greens, terracotta reds, browns, creams and whites. Try to incorporate natural materials into your furnishings. Using wooden accents and rattan baskets are a great way to do this.
2. Sustainable, Natural Materials
Sustainability is still a growing trend within interiors, we’re more conscious of our buying decisions and how they make us feel. This will become even more apparent in 2025, with more shopping small and ethically to fill their nurseries with unique items.
Natural materials are a running trend which crosses over with earthy inspired interiors. Items such as wooden furniture, rattan lighting and macrame wall art are just a few ways you can get onboard with this signature trend.
3. Red Is In
Fuelled by the social media driven ‘unexpected red theory’ design trend, red is making a return in our interiors, and it adds such a playful touch to a nursery.
We asked Nicole to share her thoughts on this trend and what the term actually means. “The unexpected red theory involves using a single pop of red in an interior design scheme, coined as the magic ingredient in finishing off any room scheme perfectly”.
“I’m a huge fan of this trend, and up until now you might have never used red in an interior. When you see it in practice, it really works. We’re not talking about having to color drench an entire nursery in red, but instead using considered, thoughtful touches of red in a meaningful way. A red lamp shade, red basket, or even a red book on a book stand are easy ways to lean into this design trend”.
Not convinced? Take a look at the below nursery featuring a pop of red. It really is the perfect ingredient!
4. Wallpapered Ceilings
Nicole says, 2025 is the time to start paying closer attention to the ceiling in your nursery, or the ‘fifth wall’ as designers like to call it.
The default decorating trick for a ceiling up until now has been slapping a bit of bright white paint onto the ceiling, but our nurseries demand more!
“Adding wallpaper to a ceiling in a nursery increases the visual interest by 100%. It’s perfect for tying into a specific color you’ve used in your room scheme to make it feel intentional, and it creates a pretty, whimsy feel for a nursery. Stripes, check and dainty floral patterns all make beautiful choices for wallpapering a ceiling”, added Nicole.
Just look how it completely transforms the nursery in the image below! It’s also a super effective way in creating the illusion of a larger nursery as your eyes are instantly drawn up to the captivating ceiling.
5. Richer, More Pigmented Hues
In 2025, we are going bold, we’re celebrating color and richer, more highly pigmented hues are a trending feature for our interiors.
Nicole shared that homeowners are becoming more confident with color, and these bolder, richer colors go some way at providing comfort and warmth, something that we are all very much craving in our interiors.
Rich olive greens, deep blues and plum based browns are just a few shades that you can give this a go with in a nursery. We’re seeing this trend through the paint brand colors of the year, with Benjamin Moore’s 2025 color of the year being Cinnamon Slate, a beautiful, heathery plum based brown.
6. Vintage Touches
You don’t need to have a period property or even a traditional interior scheme to get onboard with this trend in your nursery.
Vintage touches bring the most unique, personable accent to a room, and just like the ‘unexpected red theory’, these pieces often become the perfect finishing touches. Be it a vintage crib or a pair of period wall lights.
Nicole added, “The beauty of buying vintage is that it can often be a lot more affordable than off-the shelf items. With that aside, it remains one of the best ways to instil instant character to a nursery. It’s something that tells a story, and for me that’s what makes interior design so exciting and unique to each individual home”.
7. Beautiful Nursery Murals
Immersive spaces are becoming even more important for our interiors, especially in nurseries.
Known for its industry-leading knowledge of custom-made wallpaper murals, Wallsauce shared why they think mural wallpapers will be big in 2025.
“With wellness spaces being such a key trend next year, it is no surprise that scenic walls are rising”.
“Murals with picturesque landscapes were considered a design luxury in 18th Century France, reserved only for the most elaborate houses. Today, they serve a renewed purpose as people begin to feel suffocated by modern technology and seek ways to reconnect with nature again”.
In nurseries, Nicole shared that graphic style murals (as pictured below) are a beautiful, and soft way to incorporate a large scale mural into a nursery.
8. Soft, Buttery Yellow Tones
Like it or not, yellow is in, and its buttery, goodness just feels good to be around.
“A leading UK paint brand, Dulux announced their color of the year, True Joy, a joyous yellow, and we’re definitely seeing a knock on effect of more using yellow in their interiors”, shared Nicole.
“The beauty of a soft yellow is that it’s a room pleaser. It works in virtually any room orientation as the warm undertones counteract any blue light associated with a north facing room. It’s a fun neutral shade that can be used in boys and girls nurseries”.
Not sure how to style it? It pairs well with most colors, but try adding a few bold accent colors into the scheme to ground the room. A large area rug is an intentional, and fun way to do this, adding a tactile feel to a nursery.
9. Alcove Beds
How cosy? I know as a child, I would have adored an alcove bed! There’s something so cozy and comforting about being in one like this.
Nicole shared that’s she seeing them detailed in design briefs more and more. “They add a really fun element to a nursery or child’s bedroom, it makes an intentional space out of an unused nook, plus, they’re perfect for transforming sloped ceiling attic rooms too”.
“You can make more of a design feature out of them by adding drawers underneath and bordering them with a scallop detail like the below image, it frames the area for a really impactful and fun space!”.
10. Scallop, Pretty Details
Add a sense of whimsy to your little one’s nursery with some delectable scallop details! Be it a border around a room, or some scallop edge MDF detailing to add to a set of shelves, it creates a beautiful finish.
Nicole shared that this has become a popular design feature in nursery rooms and beyond in an interior.
“They bring a subtle softness to a room scheme that’s lovable and sweet. This is such an easy and affordable way to transform a nursery, it’s too good not to give it a try!”.
11. Playful Patterns
Introducing a tactile, colorful feel to a nursery helps to engage all the senses. Combining tasteful patterns in a range of ways is an exciting and fun way to use this trending look in a nursery in 2025.
“A gentle juxtaposition between different pattern on wallpaper and an upholstered piece of furniture adds a sense of whimsy and playfulness in a nursery”, said Nicole.
“If you’re struggling to know where to start when using contrasting patterns, you can’t go wrong with a simple stripe and then incorporating a floral or geometric pattern. They both balance well with each other in a room scheme. Try to use similar tones so the colors feel intentional in the nursery”.
